Members of the clinical research team based in Cardiff recently visited the Finish island of Aland to discuss future directions of research based in Cardiff and also in collaboration with Aland. A photograph of all those who attended the meeting is below. This collaboration is still in the process of refining lines of research but a number of suggested projects include monitoring circadian rhythm in Huntington’s disease and carrying a unique epidemiological history of Huntington’s disease in Aland.

The Brain Repair Group invited the Regional Care Advisors to visit the laboratory. During the morning session, members of the Brain Repair Group and close collaborators from within Cardiff University gave presentations to the HDA updating them on the transition between laboratory-based experiments to human clinical trials. The afternoon session involved members of the laboratory demonstrating a number of work stations so that the guests could develop a real picture of the nature of work carried out by the Brain Repair Group. The day was a success and all those involved from both sides enjoyed learning about the different aspects of HD right through from the laboratory to patient care in the community.
PRESYMPTOMATIC CONSORTIUM AND UK HUNTINGTON'S DISEASE NETWORK MEETING: 17th MAY, BIRMINGHAM, UK.

This meeting brought together approximately 70 UK-based health care professionals working with Huntington’s disease. Members attending the meeting included geneticists, neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, research scientists and coordinators and members of the HDA. Presentations and topical discussions were held to update on a number of clinical and research issues. Topics included presymptomatic testing for the gene for Huntington’s disease and updates on the various research initiatives now in underway in the UK, Europe and USA.
